I have had forces conspire against me whenever I start getting close enough to get into deep enough meditation to find my true nature. I am determined to push through these obstacles though.

There are most likely multiple reasons for the problems Asagami...
First is physiologically - our bodies naturally lower their metabolism and including heart rate and blood pressure etc. before going to bed. We do this to conserve energy and let the bodies heal. As well the glands in our brain that set the internal body temperature also sets it to lower (again, conserve energy). What this results in is that when your body thinks it should be going to sleep you start to get tired, and your internal body temperature will drop a bit, combined with decreased blood flow and you will feel colder still. Normally this is a good thing and we don't even notice it, and in the morning about half an hour before our body thinks it will go up, everything kicks back into daytime mode and we wake up ready for the day.
In your case though you are probably feeling the cold while trying to notice what's happening to your body and relaxing to help project. However, that being said usually if you are slightly cooler than usual it can help projecting. Just make sure you have a cover on =). To turn this from something that is hindering you to something that is helping you - try this instead when you're meditating or trying to relax and focus on the projection. Focus on your heartbeat and how its slowing down, see everything in it, every beat, how its working, why your body is doing what it is. Let it relax you and know that it will keep you well while you project. Obviously you will notice the coolness as well, but if you are trying to project you'll notice the cold start to fade as you become more focused, more relaxed and focusing on the spiritual world rather than the physical that is affecting your body. As you start to feel the cold disappear you'll know you're into the mindset you need to be - use that as encouragement and continue to focus, relax and your projections can hopefully improve. Turn it form a negative into a positive. Just when you start to feel the cold try not to get really excited, thus ruining your work, remain focused and relaxed and you'll be fine =).
Remember every obstacle or test we have is also an opportunity should we manage to find it.

Dragon as for your forces - they cannot stop you if you are relaxed enough, and focused enough. Well they shouldn't be as you can overcome most other forces in the spiritual world. Well most people can, but you also have a strong spirit (but I'm sure Sapphire's gone over that with you anyway). That and once you're projected once they should leave you alone - if they don't they you should be able to drive them away once projected anyway, then they shouldn't challenge you again. Or worse case scenario, just ask someone for help =).
Its more of a subjective limitation though. Once you break through it once, you shouldn't be troubled again. Must as anything in life, as soon as we conquer something once it becomes easy and never challenges us again, the hardest part is the first time overcoming the challenge presented. Right when you think you can't do it - go a bit farther and you'll always press through your plateaus.

Common cold? That'll make it harder but still easily possible.
In regards to trying not to get the common cold - its actually really easy - sleep and fluids.
As for trying to project when you are sick...unless you've practiced AP quite a bit and are a bit more fluent at it then it will be extremely hard to lucidly project or focus enough to have a conscious exit. Similarly it is hard to focus on your astral self when your physical self is coughing and weezing...meaning your astral has a hard time to leave. The best method when you are sick is definitely the becoming lucid halfway through a "normal" projection and taking control of it from there.
